A. Plaque forms on every surface of every tooth, plus it collects on the braces. Plaque causes cavities and gum disease. It must be removed or your mouth can become damaged during orthodontic treatment.
B. Plaque forms heavily in the gap between the orthodontic bracket and the gums. It also forms heavily under the archwire, between the brackets. We call these areas the DANGER ZONES.
C. Clean the area between brackets by sticking the brush bristles under the wire and gently scrubbing until clean.
D. Direct the brush bristle tips against the area between braces and gums. Gently scrub the area until clean.
E. and F. Use floss to clean the plaque in the area that the brush can not reach. Thread it under the wire first, then between the teeth.
